Peaches and Cream

This was requested by Haa-san.  I interrupt regular programming for a review on Genshiken (The Society for the Study of Modern Visual Culture), a great series by Kio Shimoku.

 This series does not involve any paranormal activity, nor is it about 15-20 year-olds attaining special powers and saving the world. It is simply about a group of otakus, and how their love (or obssession, to some) for anime takes them through life. I especially loved this series (well, only the manga, since I've yet to watch the animation. I have youtube for that, hehehe) because well -  one gets tired of watching mechas blasting each other out of the sky (in pink explosions, yeah!) or of teens being able to summon ghosts and assimilate their abilities to be able to use them in a tournament. And as for romance.. I can only watch sappy-ness so much before flipping the remote to another channel. Yes, I am talking about Fushigi Yuugi. I mean - there's no one that ditzy..right?

Looking at it, reading the manga, and putting myself into the position of one of the characters, I realized how utterly silly we otakus can be to those 'normal' people - how childish we look when we go to cosplay, and speak in Nippongo, no matter how much we butcher the accent. And putting myself back to otaku mode, I realized how much I shake my head on the utter close-mindedness of the 'normal' people - Japanese animation, hentai, ecchi or wholesome, is a different thing entirely from those Saturday children cartoons.

Also, it struck me as funny when I realized one of the characters was cosplaying one of the characters she loved in a manga - I wondered, if I cosplay her cosplaying, would that strike the judges as ironic? Lol.

But hey, that's just the otaku talking. Moving on, here are some illustrations:

i haven't attended a cosplay before but i really find it cool. especially when the costumes fully resemble that of the characters portrayed. :)

Oh, you should -it's fun to watch. :) It's very cool, most especially if the costumes were really intricate to begin with. :)

Hee~ It's kinda nice. Also, it's only around.. what? 10 or 13 episodes? :)
I especially loved the episode where they got the non-otaku to cosplay and she unconsciously snapped into the character she was cosplaying..

*watches it again on youtube*

Nyuuuu... Actually, you requested for Kujibiki Unbalance doujin game, but since it's directly connected with Genshiken, I decided to go and review Genshiken first, then Kujibiki Unbalance later. ^^;
